Project Summary

In order to fit in a new shower, the bathroom vanity needed to be turned sideways. I cut the existing water lines and drain away, cut holes for the new vanity, and inserted it in. In order to give the customer some room underneath in the cabinet, I routed the water lines behind the drain. I then installed the sink and ran a new drain line, leaving a hole in the bottom of the vanity to access the cleanout. Finally, I ran a bead of caulking around the back in order to seal it up. I tested for leaks, and after I fixed a small drip from the sink, it was water tight.

Project Challenges

Routing and soldering the copper pipe was tricky. When you have such very little room to work with, you have to be very careful with heat control so as to not burn the wall or cabinet! I have lots of practice doing just that with AC lines, so copper is no problem.  The vanity was also much lower than the previous one, leaving very little room for the drain P trap. But I managed to fit it all in, nice and tight.
