Project Summary

Many months earlier the client’s mother slipped in the bathroom, grabbed the shelf for support, but it snapped off completely. She was okay, thankfully. But when re-doing the bathroom, Sheryl needed that shelf put back on. At first I thought of simply building a new one to fit, but then I thought to ask if she still had the shelf! Luckily she did, which made re-attaching it much easier. I “tacked” the shelf back on with brad nails, allowing me to install a piece underneath which I used to glue and screw the whole thing together. I then filled in all the holes and cracks with wood filler so the customer could paint it.

Project Challenges

The tricky part was that the wood could very easily split, as it’s only 3/4 inch. I had to drill pilot holes for every screw very carefully to make sure it would go where I wanted it to. Re-attaching the splintered wood required shaving some off to make sure it fit back snug and seamless, which was a delicate process. But, in the end, I was able to rest on it without it so much as creaking.
