Project Summary
Bruce had a curious thing happening – he was getting water in his basement. Not on any other floor. Turns out his chimney is basically a straight down passage, and the caulking on the flashing was…non-existent anymore, allowing water to come in when it was raining hard. I used a product that is essentially asphalt in a tube, as I’ve found a lot of other products have problems adhering to shingle roofs. It sealed it all up nicely, and the next rainstorm they had no problems. The also had water coming into the garage – I found that there was no cap on some of the siding for the house, so I built one out of sheet metal and put it in after a good coat of Tremclad. After the caulking was dry I gave it a final coat of beige to blend in with the siding.
