Project Summary

After having their ceiling cut open by an electrician, this couple could not find anyone to do a simple drywall patch. That’s where Kincardine Handyman comes in! I screwed in a new patch of drywall, then used mesh tape on the joints, mixed up a whole bunch of drywall mud and gave it a nice thick coat. I feathered it nicely, and now you can’t even tell a hole was ever there. It took a bit of time, but I don’t rush drywall – it’s very easy to do a quick patch, but it takes some skill and patience to make it seamless. I then applied a few coats of primer, and two coats of ceiling paint. I heard the customer say to her husband: “I never thought it would look so perfect!”

Project Challenges

The tricky part was this being in a basement with furniture and carpet. Drywall needs to be sanded, and the dust is very fine. Even with a vacuum sander it can get everywhere. I was able to put up sheets all around the patch, giving myself space to work, and was able to keep in about 99% of the dust.
