Project Summary

We had some very hot days in the summer of 2023. Imagine being in a studio apartment with no AC, and the sun streaming in! The task was to make a removable AC bracket and holder. The apartment had only one window, so I didn’t want to block off a whole section of it – that would make the place very dark.  So I used a sheet of acrylic on the outside to keep the light coming in, but the weather out. I built a lightweight frame and weather sealed everything. It’s kept in place by pressure in a few select places, making it 100% weather tight and 100% removable.

Project Challenges

This job is one of the reasons why I like this work. I had to come up with something completely new on the spot, fabricate it, and install it in one day. It was difficult coming up with something that was removable, but sturdy and weather tight, while not blocking out any light. Especially difficult is that the windows opened left and right, not up and down. Needless to say I had never done this before, but once it was in and the AC turned on, the customer was very happy.
