Project Summary

The customer wanted a new light put in the ceiling of a bedroom. It was an older house. The wiring of the outlets was also odd – needless to say, he wanted them to have power all the time. I went up into the attic, made some calculations, cut some holes, ran new wire, put in a new junction box in the attic and light switch in the wall, and all that jazz. This is where the trades experience comes in handy – I know how to make it all to code. The light turned out brilliantly, and the wiring was fixed.

Project Challenges

The challenge here was the attic. It was a very tight space, and he had loose insulation up there – and a lot of it. The trick with attic jobs is to not fall through the drywall – so I moved some insulation and laid down some boards to walk on. The light needed to go almost where the slope of the attic met the walls, so I was on my hands and knees for a good part of it. I’m not a fan of attics – they can be a health hazard if you don’t prepare, but I’ve got enough experience in them that it’s no problem.
